The Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security specializes in education, research, and expertise in the fields of sociology of deviance, criminology, victimology, criminal justice, and security studies.
The faculty has 6 chairs: Chair of Criminology, Chair of Criminal Investigation, Chair of Policing and Security Studies, Chair of Information Security, Chair of Law, and Chair of Social Studies, Humanities, and Methodology. Faculty and its members have been involved in many national research and applicative projects and international research projects (e.g. EU programs Horizon, Erasmus+, COST, Daphne, REC, ESS). Researchers from the faculty have been publishing their findings in prestigious international journals and books published by international publishers. Faculty has a wide network of international partners, with which they exchange students and teaching staff, and collaborate on joint projects.

Dr. Aleš Bučar Ručman, head of the project

Is a full professor of sociology. He has been working on the topic of bullying and youth violence for over 20 years. He has authored numerous scientific papers and book chapters and delivered lectures connected to the topic of this project at universities abroad (e. g. Teesside University, UK, University of Valencia, Spain; Grenoble University, France; Tsukuba University, Nihon University, and Hokkaido University, Japan). He has been working closely with schools and trained over 7.000 teachers and school counselors. He was the head of 6 research and applicative projects that dealt with delinquency, bullying, crime, and social inclusion.

Dr. Vanja Erčulj

Is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security. The most recently completed project in which she was responsible for the methodological aspects was the development of a needs and risk assessment model for the Slovenian probation office.

Dr. Danijela Frangež

Is an associate professor of criminology and the head of the Chair of Criminal Investigation at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor. Her research focuses on criminal investigation, violence against children, and trafficking in human beings.

Dr. Tinkara Pavšič Mrevlje

Is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security. Her research focuses on psychological trauma, police psychology, and violence.

Iza Kokoravec Povh

Is a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security. Her research focuses on criminal investigation, crime prevention, juvenile delinquency and victimization.

Dr. Gorazd Meško

Is a full professor of criminology. He has conducted numerous national and international research projects and organised national and international criminological conferences. He has authored articles published in renowned international journals and is serving as the managing editor of the Journal of Criminal Investigation and Criminology. He received the Zois award for his contributions to social sciences from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Slovenia in 2014. He has been the International Ambassador of the British Society of Criminology since the autumn 2015. In 2017-2018 he was the president of the European Society of Criminology.

The Inspectorate of Education of the Republic of Slovenia conducts inspections to monitor the implementation of laws, regulations, and acts governing the provision of education in all types of educational institutions. It also oversees the allocation of public funds for these educational activities and enforces laws related to pupil hostels and boarding schools. The Inspectorate conducts several annual reviews to evaluate the system, propose systemic solutions, and assess the direct work of schools. Through awareness-raising and empowerment mechanisms, it guides schools to act legally and professionally in relation to all stakeholders in the aforementioned fields. Each year, they organize various forms of dissemination at professional meetings of head teachers to empower the system to improve its activities in the detection and prevention of violence.

Dr. Simon Slokan

Chief Inspector dr. Simon Slokan has been working professionally on various forms of violence, in particular in the context of peer violence and youth violence at sporting events. Until 2019, he worked at Slovene Police, where he led several national and sub-national working groups and participated in various ThinkTank groups within the European Commission in this field.

Jadranka Zupanc

Jadranka Zupanc has worked for 22 years at the Education, Science, and Culture Trade Union of Slovenia (SVIZ). She is employed at the Inspectorate of Education of the Republic of Slovenia as Assistant Chief Inspector, where her main activities are in the field of legal and systemic matters.

The Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana and its teaching and research staff are part of many national and international applicative and research projects, including Horizon 2020, ERASMUS+, CERV, ESS. The Faculty members are top experts in the field of education in Slovenia, collaborating regularly in education policy creation and various governmental bodies concerning education. Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana is active as a teaching and research organisation, frequently working in projects with in-service teachers on projects ranging from media literacy, student well-being, sustainability, and inclusion. The persons involved in the project are both teachers in the field of sociology of education. They study issues of various forms of violence and are practiced in research of youth.

Dr. Veronika Tašner

Is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Educational Studies at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana. She lectures on courses such as Sociology of Education, Gender and Education, Power and Education, Equity and Efficiency in Education, and IDS – Interdisciplinary Seminar. She has contributed to several research projects and has conducted intensive research on issues of violence.

Dr. Nika Šušterič

Is an assistant professor in Sociology of Education, Sociology of the Family, and Education and Gender. She focuses on issues of social and educational inclusion and contemporary educational rationalities, with a focus on the personalisation of education.

Dr. Jasna Podreka

Assistant professor of sociology. Her research focuses on domestic violence, intimate partner violence, intimate partner homicide, femicide, sexual violence and harassment, and issues related to gender discrimination in society and academia.

Dr. Mitja Sardoč

Is a senior researcher at the Educational Research Institute in Ljubljana and a researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences (University of Ljubljana). His research interests include radicalization and violent extremism, citizenship education, multiculturalism, toleration, patriotism, talents and distributive justice, and equality of opportunity. He is the editor of numerous books including Handbook of Patriotism, The Impacts of Neoliberal Discourse and Language in Education, The Palgrave Handbook of Toleration, Talents and Distributive Justice, and Making Sense of Radicalization and Violent Extremism: Interviews and Conversations. He is Managing Editor of Theory and Research in Education.

Dr. Silvia Rogošić

Is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb. She lectures on courses such as Sociology of Education (Faculty of Teacher Education and the Faculty of Science in Zagreb), Introduction to Sociology (Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences in Zagreb), and Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods (Faculty of Teacher Education). She conducts research in the field of educational sciences and has carried out several studies within school environments.

Dr. Zrinka Vukojević

Dr. Vukojević is an Assistant Professor at the Chair of Croatian Language at the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb. She has conducted numerous studies within school settings.

Dr. Ema Petričević

Is an Assistant Professor at the Chair of Psychology at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb. In the course Prevention of Abuse and Risky Behaviour, she addresses topics related to peer violence.

Education and Teacher Training Agency is involved in monitoring, enhancing, and developing education in the areas of preschool, elementary, and secondary education, adult education, the schooling of Croatian citizens' children abroad, and children of foreign citizens. It participates in the creation, development, and implementation of national curriculums, providing professional support to educational workers in the implementation of educational activities. It organizes and conducts professional development for educational workers and school principals. It conducts professional exams for educational workers; gives opinions on programs in preschool education, curricula in elementary schools and gymnasiums, general education programs in secondary vocational education, and programs in adult education. AZOO has a total of 119 employees, of which 94 are senior advisors performing tasks as prescribed by the AZOO Act.

Through its output (educational report, external and internal school evaluation, comparative work/external performance assessment) on the field of quality assurance and through various forms of cooperation, the work of the Quality Agency has a direct and indirect impact on the various stakeholders in the education system. It offers them further training, qualification courses, conferences, and other specialist events. Therefore, the work of the Quality Agency has an impact on the learning conditions of about 1 600 000 students in Bavaria.

BID Sofielund - Malmö

Property owners BID Sofielund in Malmö is a pioneering urban development initiative aimed at transforming the socio-economically challenged area of Sofielund into a liveable, attractive, safe, and green district. This initiative has significantly contributed to the reduction of violence and crime in the Sofielund area. It involves over 160 property owners, 150 NGOs, 40 housing associations, two villa communities, and more than 1,000 businesses. Focus of BID Sofielund is on 1) safety and security, which includes intensive work with the police and community to reduce crime and increase safety; 2) cleanliness, which deals with maintenance of a clean environment; 3) traffic and accessibility, that involves efforts to improve traffic conditions and public health; 4) urban environment and sustainable development, focusing on ecological, social, and cultural aspects, 5) providing various benefits to members to enhance their engagement and investment in the area, and 6) ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders. In 2019 Property owners BID Sofielund was awarded with The European Crime Prevention Award (ECPA) for its diverse measures which helped to reduce crime and improve security in the residential area.

Professor emeritus, sociologist, and criminologist, former director of the School of Public Affairs, San Diego State University (2006–17). He is an expert on the integrated approach to school violence.

dr. Vincenz Leuschner

Professor of sociology and criminology at Berlin School of Economics and Law. He is an expert on the extreme forms of peer violence.

dr. Hiromichi Katou

Professor of developmental psychology at the Faculty of Education, Hokkaido University. He is an expert on bullying and bullying prevention.

dr. Maria Sapouna

Senior lecturer in criminology at the School of Education and Social Sciences, University of the West of Scotland. She is an expert on whole-school interventions, precursors, and consequences of bullying and prejudice-based bullying.

dr. Veronika Nagy

Assistant professor in criminology at the Law Department of Utrecht University. Her research interest includes issues related to the (ab)use of digital technology, the connection between mobility and technology, criminalisation, and digital self-censorship.

dr. Virginia Soldino

Assistant professor of criminology in the Department of Criminal Law, University of Valencia. She is an expert on sexual violence.

Associate professor at the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education, University of Stavanger. She is an expert in bullying prevention and intervention, applying a comprehensive school approach to anti-bullying programs.
